Sunday, September 7, 1952

93 members of the Brackbill clan signed the register at the sixth family reunion at Williamson Park, Lancaster, Sunday, September 7, 1952.

The exercises were opened by singing, "Faith of our fathers", followed by the invocation by the Rev. Elias Eby.

The president, Dr. Robert M. Brackbill welcomed the clan, and explained that the quartette were unable to sing at this time. Christian Brackbill read Romans 12. Martin Brackbill, Sr., substituting for his son, spoke briefly on the value of family history and family pride.

Benjamin R. Brackbill read the names of the following members of the family who died during the year:

  • Pearl E. Brackbill, daughter of Christian Brackbill, of Strasburg
  • Mrs. Celia Donnelley Lutz, daughter of Agnes Brackbill Donnelley, of Strasburg
  • Miss Sue Leaman, daughter of Daniel and Ann Brackbill Leaman
  • Miss Bertha S. Breckbill, daughter of Benjamin H. & Anna Mary Hostetter Breckbill, of Willow Street
  • Christian E. Brackbill, son of Elam and Barbara Brackbill, of Gordonville

after a moment of silence, the president read the 23rd Psalm.

The minutes were approved as read. The treasurer reported $1,320.84 in the endowment fund; in the checking fund

A. Landis Brackbill, for the Nominating committee reported for president, Harry S. Brackbill, Elizabethtown, vice-president, Elvin Brackbill, Paradise, Recording Secretary, Lucile Brackbill, East Petersburg, Assistant recording secretary, Christian Brackbill, Gordonville, Corresponding Secretary, Martin H. Brackbill, Bausman, Treasurer, Hebron Breckbill, Strasburg, Historian, Martin Brackbill, jr. New Cumberland.

Harry Brackbill then awarded prizes of a dollar bill to the oldest person, Miss Hetty Hershey, 82 years old; to the youngest person, Janet Elaine Brackbill, 4 months old, and to the person who had come the greatest distance, Mrs. Mary Brackbill Hersh, from Darby, Pa.; this was followed by a peanut scramble for the children.

The offering was $32.21, and after singing "Blest be the tie that binds", and the benediction by the Rev. Elias Eby, the meeting adjourned. Many of the group remained to eat their picnic lunches.
